The Husby Body Fly Patterns:

Husby Body patterns are not just the little hunk of foam, it's any trout fly I tie, be it a Royal Coachmen or a Adams, it not the styling, it's the the idea of putting my own spin on it. It's taking the thinking process of a pattern and figuring out how I can tie it with the least bit of effort, materials and time to give me somthing that is going to catch more fish. Is that not we all do at our vises, improvise, well to me it's my signuature to the tying community. I was told by a great tyer once that proportion are meaningless ( of course he was speaking of Alantic patterns ) when all said and done the fly will look that way it should and another tyer will be able to tell what it is, but I know it's mine I put a little into it or took a little out, I made it my own and some could tell that by the signutature I left on it.

So every pattern can be converted into a H.Body Fly by only one piece of foam? No, only myself tying a HB makes it a HB, yours could be a Smith Body pattern, but the piece of foam aids in so many ways, from float and angle of float to pocketing air when sanded. The shape of the thorax is much more realistic then other means, and is quicker to tie in then other materials also. I knew I tied somthing was realist looking when my HB Mosqutio had other mosquitos clinging on to it, thinking is was another. I also had swallows take dives on my flies, picking them off the water to drop them a few feet later once they realized it was not a real insect.

So now I have a entire line up of these H.Body pattern, in all ranges of size and style. Some I forget about porportion all together and they still catch fish. So in many peoples eye, I guess the diffrence is just a little patch of foam, which I know I am not the first to do. It's my input, it's my signuture, the way I tie, the designs and materials I use that make it a HB pattern just not the hunk of foam but rather just a personal style to me alone.
